Hello My Name is
Seth Haskin
WHERE I COME FROM
I am from the St. Croix Falls area. Situated across the border of Minnesota and north of Hudson, where a glacier carved out the St. Croix river. The autumn colors attract many people to the area. I have lived here most of my life. Wisconsin is a state I love for many reasons, one of which is my German background; and of course my love for great cheese. Industry, community, and agriculture are the pillars of the Wisconsin I know. We care greatly for one another and will strive for a better state.
Who I Am
I am someone who will make decisions, not based on partisan pressure, but rather on knowledge and wisdom. I am young, but that does not discount me as a leader. Because I am young, my choices will be investments into my future and the future generations of Wisconsin. I will surround my self with educated and well informed advisors who not only have knowledge, but experience. It is my goal to show great leadership by listening to many options and opinions, and basing decisions on what I believe Wisconsin needs. I am someone who will take responsibility, and in doing so will write laws with this in mind. I am for the people and stand by the people. I believe that our government is still in our hands, and we can use it to better help our lives. I believe my unique position of being 23 years of age will help represent the younger voices of Wisconsin. I will represent my cohort, but, I will also be representing the will of the people of Wisconsin; no matter what age group or background. I am here to build a bridge. I am here to begin the next civic duty. I am here to create a better future. I am here for you. Wisconsin, let us put aside the polarization and show unity.
Wisconsin,
Why Are We The Change
I know that the majority of Wisconsin citizens agree on many things and that we want many similar things, the way in which we reach these goals may differ but it shouldn't keep us from reaching them, nonetheless. Wisconsin was formed around democracy and the idea that the people have the power. The "Wisconsin idea" has been the center stage for policy nation wide; with the phrase "effective and accountable government worked best with the help of experts". Government is a tool for its people not a tool against its people. This is how Wisconsin has and will continue to shape the U.S.A.
The more politicians polarize us the more we loose the Wisconsin I love. So it is time we stand up in solidarity and show those in power that job security is based on the people's votes and not how much they can control us. Voting in a third party into the legislature will not only stir up the media but it will also stir the stagnate waters of politics. Whether we realize it or not, Wisconsin is the change for the country. Wisconsin can show and will show that we care, that we will not backdown into a corner of helplessness, we are stubborn but also caring. In the words of a wise protestor and great leader "Be the change you want to see". I will take the first step if I have to, and I will take it confidently. Look out Wisconsin, here comes a young, ambitious, and independent leader.
Reform
It is the job of our legislators to make laws, not to delegate their law making power to agencies, departments, and bureaucracies. It is time we hold our law makers responsible for what they vote on. It is time to make sure the people creating laws and rules of society are those we elect and not those who are faceless and not presented on the ballot.
